What is heat sink anodizing ?
Anodic oxidation is the process of taking a metal (mainly aluminum)as the anode and electrolyzing it in a suitable electrolyte to form an inorganic oxide film on the surface of the product. Metal oxide film has corrosion resistance, wear resistance, insulation and other properties, and can be used as the protective layer of metal or the bottom layer of paint. The oxide film can also absorb a variety of organic and inorganic dyes, making the surface of metal products show bright colors and play a decorative role.
The advantages of extruded anodized heat sink
1. Improve heat sink corrosion resistance
Because aluminum is very active, it is particularly easy to react with oxygen in the air to produce aluminum oxide. The alumina film is transparent, so it is difficult to see it by human eyes. This thin aluminum oxide film just insulates the air and makes the aluminum matrix no longer oxidized, so it plays a role in corrosion resistance. So the naturally formed oxide film can play the role of oxidation resistance. Why do we still need anodic oxidation? On the one hand, the uneven oxide film formed naturally causes the surface color of aluminum alloy to be different and ugly; On the other hand, the naturally formed oxide film is very thin, easy to be scratched, and has weak corrosion resistance. The artificial oxide film produced by anodic oxidation is uniform, dense and more corrosion resistant.
2. Improve heat sink wear resistance
The base material of aluminum profile is particularly easy to be scratched and worn. After all, the hardness of aluminum alloy cannot be compared with that of steel. The anodized industrial aluminum profile surface is very hard, and the hardness of the oxide film can reach 300HV. So it is very wear-resistant and not easy to scratch.
3. Surface coloring of aluminum heat sinks
During anodizing, there will be a lot of dense pores on the surface, which can easily absorb some metal salts or dyes, thus forming a colorful surface of aluminum products.
4. Improve heat sink insulation
We know that the conductivity of aluminum is very good, but aluminum heat sink need insulation in some occasions. The oxide film of anodized aluminum heat sink is non-conductive, so if insulation is needed, anodizing treatment is required.
5. Good for heat sink surface painting
Some industrial aluminum heat sinks need to be painted. The surface gap of anodized aluminum heat sinks has strong adsorption, which makes the painting more uniform and beautiful.

Extruded heat sink anodizing main process
Surface pretreatment: Clean the surface of the heat sink by chemical or physical methods to expose the pure material in order to obtain a complete and dense artificial oxide film. Bright or matt surfaces can also be obtained by mechanical means.
Anodic oxidation: Under certain technological conditions, the surface of the heat sink after surface pretreatment will undergo anodic oxidation to form a layer of dense, porous and strong adsorption oxide film.
Hole Sealing : The pores of the porous oxide film formed after anodizing are sealed, so that the oxide film has better anti-pollution, corrosion resistance and wear resistance. The oxide film is colorless and transparent. With the strong adsorption of the oxide film before sealing, some metal salts can be adsorbed and deposited in the film hole, which can make the surface of the heat sink show many colors.
